The Time for Precision Liver Medicine is Now
Precision Liver Medicine is transforming how we tackle the growing burden of chronic liver diseases. Conditions such as hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD), and cirrhosis are becoming increasingly prevalent and complex. Yet, the tools traditionally used—such as transplantation criteria or basic liver function markers—often fail to capture the intricate molecular drivers or account for variability in disease progression. Precision Liver Medicine offers a new path forward by integrating genomics, artificial intelligence (AI), and advanced diagnostics to deliver personalized care tailored to each patient’s unique needs.
The need for action has never been more urgent. Chronic liver diseases are surging worldwide, with MASLD now a leading contributor to cirrhosis and liver cancer. At the same time, technological breakthroughs are expanding what’s possible in diagnosis and treatment. AI-powered biomarker discovery, liquid biopsies, and machine learning are enabling earlier detection, more accurate prognostication, and more informed therapeutic decisions. Global research efforts and policy initiatives are converging to make precision medicine frameworks not only feasible – but essential.
Ophiomics is proud to contribute to this revolution. HepatoPredict, our CE IVD-marked prognostic test for HCC patients undergoing liver transplantation, moves beyond traditional approaches by combining tumor gene expression data with clinical variables. Validated across diverse cohorts, it supports more accurate and equitable patient selection, improving decision-making while addressing the challenges of tumor heterogeneity. HepatoDetect, one of our ongoing projects, complements this by offering a non-invasive liquid biopsy solution for early HCC detection and post-treatment monitoring in high-risk populations. Building on these innovations, we are developing additional liquid biopsy tools targeting different stages of the journey from liver health to disease and back. Our soon-to-be-released LiverXpert.ai portal further places us at the center of this transformation in liver care.
However, Precision Liver Medicine isn’t just about technology—it’s about collaboration. At Ophiomics, we work closely with hospitals, researchers, and policymakers across Europe and beyond to ensure that innovation translates into real-world impact for patients. The future of liver care is here: data-driven, patient-centered, and built on the principles of equity and precision. We invite the global liver research and care community to join us in advancing this field—reach out if you’d like to be part of our research agenda. Together, we can ensure that every patient receives the right intervention at the right time.
