Liver Cancer Awareness Month

October marked Liver Cancer Awareness Month, a time to spotlight one of the world’s fastest-growing and deadliest cancers:

  • Over 900,000 people are diagnosed each year.
  • It is the third leading cause of cancer death globally.
  • Over 40% of patients are diagnosed too late for curative treatment.
  • By 2050, global cases are expected to rise by 75%, reaching 1.5 million yearly.

Yet, much can be done. Vaccination against hepatitis B, maintaining a healthy weight, and limiting alcohol consumption are proven ways to reduce risk. Most importantly, biannual screening of at-risk patients enables early detection, helping avoid diagnosis at advanced stages, when treatment options are limited and survival rates drop sharply.

Regular surveillance saves lives, yet too few receive it. At Ophiomics, we see early detection as the cornerstone of precision medicine. Through our upcoming HepatoDetect liquid biopsy assay, we aim to make liver cancer screening more accessible and effective, helping clinicians detect disease before it’s too late.

As Liver Cancer Awareness Month reminds us, awareness is only the beginning. Action, through prevention, screening, and innovation, is what will truly change the future of liver cancer care.
